Memphis, TN (January 20, 2012): Today, associates in Buckman locations around the world gathered to celebrate their personal community involvement and active community participation of their company. In 2011, more than a half million dollars (USD) worth of volunteer time, noncash and cash donations were made globally by Buckman to the communities in which they operate. Nearly 100,000 people benefited from BuckmanCares, and Buckman associates volunteered more than 5,000 hours during the year. Few companies so consistently contribute to the communities around them. Fewer still measure success in this way. Buckman calls it The Chemistry of Sharing, and on January 20, that sharing was celebrated around the world. All associates with a minimum of 10 hours donated to Buckman-sponsored community initiatives were recognized. Many of the volunteer hours each year are donated during paid company time. The associates also saw a video that summarizes their global giving activities. “This is a very special day for the collective Buckman family of associates,” says Buckman Chairman of the Board Kathy Buckman Gibson. “All of our measures of community outreach are up during 2011, and we are extremely proud of our associates and how they have embraced their role in making their communities and the world a better place, especially in a globally depressed economy.” Ms. Buckman Gibson explained that Buckman focuses its community outreach in three critical areas; education, health and human services, and environment. “Our goal is to think globally but act locally,” added Ms. Buckman Gibson. The Company also provides special recognition to those associates who have donated 50 or more hours by making a monetary contribution in their honor to an organization of their choice provided that it meets one of the three focus areas. In addition to celebrating 2011, BuckmanCares Day featured the announcement of Buckman’s first coordinated global community initiative. BuckmanCares will focus on blood donation around the world, and on the Red Cross and its disaster response and relief during 2012. “Giving blood is an international need that our associates around the world can participate in, and the Red Cross disaster response can be felt in any corner of the world at any time,” said Ms. Buckman Gibson. The BuckmanCares focus initiatives are not limited to the two programs however. Local communities are encouraged to have a local impact and to engage associates’ involvement in other areas of education, health and human services and environment as appropriate for their corner of the world, as coordinated by local community relations councils. A Global Community Relations Advisory Council was formed in 2009 and led by Kathy Buckman Gibson to provide overall guidance to the local efforts. To view the actual article please click this link.
