Protozoa are unicellular organisms often found in the same aqueous environments as algae and bacteria. Protozoa, organically classified as part of the animal kingdom (proto = first; zoa = animal), are now included in the kingdom Protista. Like the algae and fungi, protozoa are eucaryotic. They are motile either with flagella or cilia. Some contain chloroplasts and are photosynthetic.
