Buckman Laboratories Pty Ltd, the Australian trading operation, was incorporated in July 1971. Buckman Laboratories New Zealand Limited, the New Zealand trading operation, was incorporated in December 1991. During the period 1971 to 1990, the Australian operation was headquartered in rented offices at Granville, Sydney NSW and product stored in rented warehousing at various locations in Australia and New Zealand. From 1990 to 1997, Buckman decided to embark on a long-term project to establish a manufacturing presence in Australia. Several reasons were evident for selecting the current Wagga Wagga site. These included: Reduced cost of development in regional centers The central geographic location of Wagga Wagga to both customers and ports Good transport (road and rail) network access Head campus of Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga Very supportive local government; large regional centre

Land (100 acres of previously zoned rural) was purchased in the now Bomen Industrial Park, Wagga Wagga, NSW in 1992. In 1993, Buckman relocated its administration and technical office from the leased location in Sydney to the new Administration and Technical Centre in Wagga Wagga. The manufacturing facility was established over the next few years and serves both the Australian and New Zealand market.

In 2003, Buckman Australia saw the introduction of toll manufacturing activities in the Wagga Wagga plant. The original development consent and EPA license covering the Wagga Wagga facility was successfully renegotiated in 2009 to reflect the current and future expected product mix and an increase in output.

Current Situation:
Buckman Australia has ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004, and AS 4801 (Safety Management) systems in place. Our technical centre has extensive analytical capabilities to service our markets. Our target markets include Pulp and Paper Technologies, Leather Technologies, and Water Treatment Technologies. Our Performance Chemicals Division also actively works with other industries such as recreational water, paint and coatings, sugar, metalworking fluids, formulators, wood treatment, and drilling fluid additives.
