Creping Innovation for your Tissue Manufacturing Process

At Buckman, we are constantly researching new product technologies and enhancements that can benefit the tissue manufacturing process. Some of the latest creping innovation for tissue successfully launched to our customer base include:

Busperse 3017 is an oil free Yankee coating modifier technology intended to help tissue producers maintain more effective coating hardness and doctorability. This differs from standard oil-based release technologies which can produce good lubrication but suffer from poor coating matrix hardness control due their lack of miscibility in the coating mix and tendency to concentrate themselves at the coating-sheet interface.

    Busperse 3017 is:

    • Suitable for use with all polyamide, polyvinyl and latex based coating packages
    • High temperature stable for use on high speed high temperature Yankees
    • Highly concentrated for reduced use and shipping logistics
    • Odor free, with no perceptible impact on finished product scent
    • Hydrophilic in nature, so as not to reduce either the speed or level of absorbency of the final tissue product
    • Used successfully on bath tissue, facial tissue, toweling and napkin

Benefits from switching to Busperse 3017 in your Yankee coating package include:

    • The ability to crepe at both higher and lower reel moistures where oil-based release products tend to struggle to maintain performance
    • Improved stretch in the base sheet than is typical with other non-oil modifiers
    • Safe and biodegradable product
    • Reduced final product dusting

TAD+A51 is a new approach to a polyamide copolymer designed Yankee coating adhesive. This product was designed to allow for the high transfer tack needed in modern hybrid structured machines such as ATMOS, NTT and ETAD. These modern manufacturing platforms present wet structured sheets to the smooth Yankee surface which challenges conventional adhesives’ ability to maintain adhesion uniformity and strength. Lack of adhesion uniformity and strength manifests itself in slow production speeds, poor reel builds, low caliper and low tissue softness.

    TAD+A51 is:

    • Buckman proprietary chemistry developed specifically for the unique challenges for hybrid structured machines
    • High tack, high robustness product designed to thrive in the wet nips of hybrid structured machines so that sheet-to-Yankee intimacy is maximized for improved pickup, drying , reel build and final product uniformity
    • Synergistic with PVOH based Yankee coating packages to allow for a final, highly doctorable film at the creping blade with will improve quality, blade life and sheet handling

Benefits from switching to TAD+A51 on your structured tissue machine include:

    • Increased control of adhesion, both in the upper amount adhesion possible and intuitive operator control through dosage adjustments
    • Ability to leverage the increased adhesion for increased speed, higher productivity, higher caliper, softer base sheets and other value streams
    • Wider operating window allowing for greater machine stability
    • Ability to be used successfully on bath tissue, facial tissue, toweling and napkin
